Award Winning MexiCajun Ribs

It’s bragging time.  :)

Our local chapter of the United Way holds an annual cook-off fundraiser at our lovely downtown riverfront. This year, hubs and a team of his co-workers signed up and got cooking.

Unfortunately, I was unable to get away from the shop and attend; but it was a beautiful day to be outside, and these guys didn’t need any help.  ;)

Quite Possibly the Perfect Bloody Mary

So, I got to thinking… No, don’t worry! About Bloody Marys. I love a good, spicy, flavorful Bloody Mary; but it’s nearly impossible to find a mix that is all of those things without having to add a few extra ingredients. After some early experiments, I already discovered that my seasoning blend (MexiCajun) is a fantastic compliment to this famous drink. So I started thinking that maybe I could come up with my own recipe and stop wasting good money on bad mixes.
Now for some reason I woke up yesterday morning with a hankering for a Bloody Mary–and NO, it wasn’t because I drank too much at Girls’ Game Night! ☺ Unfortunately, I had to wait until Happy Hour to start my testing and tasting. But it was well worth the wait!
I tried a few basic recipes, just replacing certain ingredients with different versions; but wasn’t quite satisfied. They always turn out too sweet or too thin or not savory. So, I kept experimenting.
Here’s what I learned:

Vegetable Garden: Day 34 & Giveaway Winners

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve given an update on the garden. Things are progressing nicely. Everything is continuing to grow, slowly but surely. As evident from the picture above, I actually have ONE tomato that is making great progress! I love walking out to my little garden every morning, still in my pjs with my first cup of coffee in hand. I barely have my eyes completely open, but the only thing I can think of is how my garden is doing.
We’ve had some unusually low temps in the evening for the past week, but it doesn’t seem to have harmed anything. I believe it’s getting enough sun during the day, and I make sure it has enough water each morning.

It’s one of my most favorite holidays because the food and the festivities are so fun and colorful and so Gooooood! I wanted to celebrate with all my new foodie friends, so I thought of way to share my love of one of my favorite world cuisines.

It has occurred to me that I write a lot about this unknown “MexiCajun Seasoning.” Most of you (or ALL of you) have never heard of it, much less tried it. So I thought I might do a little something to remedy that. ☺ I’m doing a Big Fat GIVEAWAY!

Tuscan Sliders

It’s been such a wonderful Saturday, I hate to see it end. I spent the first half of the day at the Natchitoches Farmer’s Market. I set up with my seasoning and my sister tagged along with her homemade amaretto. Needless to say, she sold nearly EVERY bottle she had! ☺ And all I can say about that is “Lucky People!” Because that stuff is good!
