Olympics, Tales of the Cocktails, a Triathlon, and Man, I must be crazy!

I’ve been MIA lately, but I swear I have a good reason!  No, really–a good reason, which would be:  I’m CRAZY!

With 1,438 items on my to do list, I agreed to participate in a triathlon this weekend with two of my girl friends.  ”Oh, how good for you,” you may be thinking.  ”You must be in great shape to take on a triathlon!”

Um.. No.  Let me explain.  A good friend participated in her first triathlon this past spring (Sarah!) and was so exuberant over her wonderful accomplishment that she was able to convince me and another friend to sign on for a round  of self-punishment at the hottest time of the year!  (Did I mention I must be crazy?)

I should also mention this is my first attempt at a triathlon which includes a 350 meter swim, 12 mile bike ride and 2 mile run.  It is only sheer unmitigated fear that has pushed me out of my air-conditioned home to train for this competition.  With only 2 days to go, I’m feeling pretty good that I won’t be dead last; and really, I’m good with that.  ;)

Since this triathlon, part of the Rocketchix series, will be in Baton Rouge I decided to make a whole weekend of it.  The 10th anniversary of Tales of the Cocktail is happening now in New Orleans, so C. and I will mosey on down to the Big Easy and see what kind of inspiration we can soak up for our Happy Hour Friday series.

Seminars, tasting rooms, cocktail tours…. I can’t wait!  :D   (This is serious research, people.)  I will be bringing back vital information to share with YOU.  ;)

But before any of that, there is the opening ceremony of the Olympics Friday night.  And as I watch those athletes march across the field with flags waving, I will lift my glass of wine high and imagine myself crossing the finish line to loud cheers of my countrymen–alive and with the promise of cocktails and never having to run, swim or bike Ever again.

;)
